Miranda, Foothill College, transferring to UCLA majoring in American Literature and Cultures
My dream was always to attend college far from home. However, the four-year universities that accepted me were close enough to commute. I decided to take two years at Foothill Community College to increase my chances of going to UCLA and pursuing a career writing for films and other media. Though sometimes it felt lonely, I took the opportunity to look for clubs that related to my degree. I took two years of Journalism, wrote for the school newspaper, and tutored in English at the school’s writing department. I also communicated with mentors, counselors, and advisors about how to prepare for my fall applications. EPAAF and specifically Ms. Hyle helped by checking in on my goals and answering my questions. If it was not for EPAAF and Future Grads, I would not be transferring to UCLA this fall. I thank them for their support and also myself for self-advocating.
